Tribute to Italian bel canto at Manoel
Popular arias and duets from Italian operas will feature in a concert at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. by two leading Italian singers – soprano Roberta Canzian and baritone Mario Cassi – who will be accompanied by pianist Ulla Casalini.
This tribute to Italian bel canto includes selections from Rossini’sIl Barbiere di Siviglia, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and La Favorita, Verdi’s La Traviata, Rigolettoand Don Carlos, and Puccini’sLa Boheme.
The two singers have performed in Italy’s leading opera houses including La Scala of Milan and also in Spain, Austria, Japan, Korea and Russia.
During Saturday’s concert, music critic Albert Storace will introduce the various items on the programme. Entitled I Grandi Operisti Italiani, the concert is organised by Fiesole Artistic Productions in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute.
