Somerville Youth Hockey's learn to skate and learn to play hockey programs begin on Nov. 19. The program teaches children ages 4 and up to learn the great sport of ice hockey. The 15-week program (with a possibility of extension) begins Nov. 19 at 8 a.m. at the Somerville Ave Rink, next to Conway Park.
Any and all children are welcome to join. Skaters must have hockey skates (no picks on the front) and an approved helmet (bike helmets are allowed though not preferred during the Learn to Skate sessions only). Hockey equipment rental is available on a first come, first serve basis. Rentals may be secured with a $50 deposit returned at the end of the season.
The Learn to Skate program starts at 8 a.m.-9:15 a.m. on Saturdays and the Learn to Play Hockey program begins at 9:30-11 a.m. Somerville residents pay $110 for Learn to Skate or $125 for Learn to Play Hockey. Out of towners are welcome, but will pay $125/$140 for either program. All players must preregister with USA Hockey at https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action . USA Hockey registration is free for ages 6 and under. Over 6 pays $35. Please bring a copy of your registration form to the rink.
